Session Types

Learning Lab

Hands-on is the emphasis in this session. Combining both the education and conversation styles along with time to practice, this session should include the following parts:

  • Discussion-  (10 minutes) An introduction to share a little about what the session or technology will cover.

  • Demonstration- (20 minutes)  The presenter's opportunity to share via demonstration or video, what the participants will practice.

  • Application- (20 minutes) Lab time for the participants to process, discuss, and apply the strategies or skill from the demonstration. This session is 50 minutes in length.

Education

Education sessions provide the participants with new information about a particular topic or approach. Because this is not a hands-on session, preference will be given to presentations that provide unique ways to engage the audience in the topic. Please allow 5-10 minutes in this session type for questions and answers. This session is 50 minutes in length.

Digital Poster

Embracing technology, this sessions provides the opportunity for the presenters to share their best practices and strategies for leveraging Canvas and its associated technologies. The presenter should be prepared to share, via their own device, a digital poster that captures key ideas and provides the participants information in a short 3-5 minute presentation. This session is conducted gallery- style with participants visiting each of the presentation stations. Monitors will be provided.

Conversation

This type of presentation steps away from the standard slide driven session and invites participants to be part of the discussion. The session may focus on a problem, issue, or challenge relevant to the participant's experience. Presenters should provide the scenario or issue and key questions to drive the discussion. Take-aways may include strategies and resources from both the presenter and the audience. This is a single slide or no slide presentation. This session is 50 minutes in length.
